When I became convinced about the need for easier and more effective RPA training, it was inevitable that I would reach out to Automation Anywhere. All the major players have their distinct heritage and approach to automation. They all had very different routes to determining their training strategy.
I had always taken the view that training is important to the RPA platforms, but is not “core business”. More important to focus on market growth and product development. With a bit of arrogance I also thought that, by specializing in just training and nothing else, we’d be better than anyone else at the education side of things.
I will be honest to my friends at Automation Anywhere, that it really took the best part of 12 months for their training strategy to become more defined. At that stage we were well positioned to support them with this. Having been in the market for most of 2017, we were absolutely prepared for this, having worked through all the challenges of online training, onsite training and building up a global team of experienced RPA developers who were also great at training.
The next hurdles with Automation Anywhere were the Train The Trainer program and the certification of those trainers. It took us about six weeks to go through the program and pass the certification exams. As well as a complex examination, it also required the submission of recordings to show the quality of the delivery, and an onsite evaluation.
Seriously, none of this was easy.
And it didn’t matter how much Automation Anywhere experience the trainers had – the standard was very high and the pass rate must be very low.
What we were able to do in parallel was build out our training library, in particular the bank of tests and practical case studies. That is something we are committed to doing, adding to it every single week.
One of the advantages we have is that we can leverage examples and case studies across multiple different platforms. There will be different answers, of course, but the core business problems to work on will be similar.
