Surprising Jobs Data for RPA Developers
Salary levels and hourly rates levels in the RPA space in 2017 surprised me.
Basically, they didn’t grow as fast as I’d expected.
I’d assumed we’d see real tightening of the market for RPA skills, but that didn’t happen… until the last few months of the year.
Then we started to see:
- mid level RPA jobs coming in at $140k plus bonus and benefits,
- increases in hourly rates,
- and – most importantly – the continued hiring of RPA resources in the last quarter, traditionally the quietest recruiting months of the year. (Our good friends at Apex were still getting new requests in the last few days before Christmas.)
Europe still has a bit to go before the skills gap is as big as in the UK. However, even now, European employers are looking overseas for RPA talent because there just are close to zero local resources.
All of this opens up opportunities on a personal level. If you do an RPA course at $1500 or $2500 and that leads to just a $10 per hour pay rise, there is a payback of around a month; $20 per hour and the payback is a couple of weeks.
Plus, as I always remind people, this is just the beginning. Getting RPA skills now gets you on a great career path, with immediate opportunities (see below).
